On the morning of September 11, 2001, NYC fireboats were at the heart of the rescue efforts by the city's maritime community. While ferries, tugs and other crafts shuttled stranded and frightened commuters across to New Jersey, the city's fire-boats- Marine One's John D. McKean and Staten Island's Marine 9 Firefighter pumped water from the Hudson River on to the flames at the World Trade Center site.
