A radical move by Norwegian offshore operator Solstad to enlist the help of charterers to attain "climate neutral" fleet operation could provide a blueprint for other environmentally conscious shipowners and operators. Generally in Northern Europe, cutting fuel consumption and reducing emissions of SOx, NOx and carbon dioxide is at the top of many company agendas. Notably in Norway, a no-nonsense pragmatism prevails-shipping's in the environmental spotlight and urgent action is required. Waiting for the IMO is not an option.
