Svitzer A/S, Copenhagen, Denmark, recently ordered two environmentally friendly tugs from Lithuania's Baltija Shipbuilding Yard as part of its plan to reduce its CO_2 emissions by 1% each year between 2008-2012. There is an option for two additional tugs.rnThe harbor tugs will be diesel-elec-tric and incorporate SCR and particu-late filter technology. Svitzer expects to reduce fuel consumption and CO_2 by some 10% and NOx by 70-80% as compared with similar tugs.rnSvitzer CEO Jesper T. Lok said the ECO-tug would be a more expensive tug to build, but that "going green makes good business sense."
