A winning idea — three-stage air-cooled compressors

Compressed air remains the most cost-effective way of starting main and auxiliary diesel engines, but the design behind the traditional compressor has changed. Compressed air had always been generated by piston compressors which could manage 30 bar at the most. They were two-stage models with seawater cooling and their design called for a lot of maintenance.
