Royal Navy bearing test facility opens its door to commerce

There are five main test rigs operated by BMT Defence Services Limited, predominantly for the UK Ministry of Defence, at the Haslar Marine Technology Park in Gosport, Hampshire. The two bearing test rigs, capable of testing 200mm and 514mm diameter bearings, can operate from very low shaft speeds to about 200rev/min top speed. Bearing load is applied by pulling up on the bearing in its housing with the test shaft held but still able to rotate in pedestal roller bearings.
