In June 1952, some 55 years ago, having graduated from Durham University, I was appointed to SS Pompey Light as 3rd (of three) engineer doubling up as electrician. This ship had been built by Austin's of Sunderland and was a collier trading from the NE coast to mainly the Portsmouth City power station with coal.
