In the case of Wartsila, the company gained decades of composite material expertise, experience and the most advanced test methods available when it bought Railko Marine in 2007. Wartsila relocated its composites operation to a dedicated new facility in Slough, England and set about the development of new, high-performance materials for use in its evolving seals and bearings portfolio. As a result, Wartsila's introduction of composites is exemplified by a new seal, targeted principally at water jets and a new water lubricated bearing material. The new WFS1R-P-L water lubricated seal is based on the successful Maneguard 1 and 2 ranges.
