A clear trend in the medium speed engine sector is the development, and approval, of an increasing number of dual fuel engines, responding to the increased interest by many owners in switching to LNG as a fuel. The application of these engines is now moving away from just inland/local ferries into many different vessel types. Medium speed dual fuel engines, and those designed to operate solely on gas, will find wider use in the near future.Nevertheless, the choice of engines designed for more conventional fuels is being extended with, for example, Hyundai's H46/60V gaining class approval.
