After just a year of construction the Suez Canal extension has opened in Egypt. The improvements are part of a plan by the country's military rulers to bring stability and prosperity to Egypt after years of strife. The shipping world was taken by surprise when Egypt's leader President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi personally approved and announced the extension last year as it was not a topic that had been considered as up for discussion. The project is believed to have cost over $8 billion to complete.
