摘要

In the future, shipmanagers will use big data to a far greater extent and will develop a pathway towards achieving the promised operational benefits. Takashi Nagatome, president and chief executive of ClassNK's new subsidiary Ship Data Center (ShipDC), expects shipowners to invest in collating and analysing data. He offered his insights in a keynote address to the 2016 Large Engines Techdays conference organised in April by the Austrian diesel engine consultant AVL. Mr Nagatome was speaking within days of the centre opening for business, just four months after it was established. He predicted some of the benefits that centralising data in an onshore data centre will bring to the industry. "Vessel owners, operators and managers can monitor the performance of every ship in their fleet," he said. He added that equipment manufacturers could monitor the performance of every one of their engines and equipment around the world, so they could make improvements.
