摘要

The development of Geosynthetics in the past three decades has provided the strategies for enhancing the overall performance of the paved roadways. The use of geosynthetic as interlay and overlay, can enhance the life of the overlay via stress relief, preventing seepage of water through the pavement and reinforcing the cracked old pavement. Thorough research work has revealed that Jute and hot bitumen have excellent thermal compatibility. Thus bitumen-soaked Jute overlays may be used as riding surface of roads for resurfacing the distressed riding surfaces on flexible pavements. Therefore, like bitumen, geosynthetics also play a vital role in civil engineering constructions. This paper has tried within its limited length to delineate a brief overview of bitumen and its properties for production of bitumen impregnated Jute Geotextile for its wider application in the area of civil engineering constructions.
