摘要

Sizing is a process used for the application of a film forming polymer to provide temporary protection to the fabric. The principal aim of this work is to study the effect of starching at different concentrations on fabric thickness and count. Dried Water chestnut powder was used with four different concentrations i.e., 5 %, 10 %, 15 % and 20 %. Fabric count and fabric thickness was measured and analyzed with control samples. Three types of 100 % pure cotton fabric with plain weave was selected for research work. It was observed that fabric count was slightly reduced after application of starch; in fact it was negligible at 5 % concentration and progressive trend of reduction was marked as concentration increased. Similarly, fabric thickness was also not effected at 5 % concentration on all three types of fabric. It can be concluded that as concentration was increased fabric thickness of all respective treated samples also increased.
