Kumbh Mela, which kicked off this week in Prayag, is regarded as the world's largest religious festival, which sees the participation of sadhus and devotees of all caste and creed. The Mela was included in the list of "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 2017. Devotees consider it auspicious to take a dip at the holy confluence of Ganga and Yamuna at the Kumbh Mela. The irony is that while the sadhus and million devotees seek eternal protection of mind and soul from the Higher Lords by absolving their sins in the holy dip, they seek mortal protection from the government! It will be for the first time that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be used in Kumbh Mela 2019. Over 1,000 CCTV cameras will be used to monitor various movements across the Mela area spread across 3,200 hectares. The Army will play a key role in the security of lakhs of devotees.
