Epa Releases E-waste Guidelines; Environmental Organizations Cite Loopholes

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released new guidelines on how to run safe and environmentally protective recycling operations Oct. 31, but some members of the environmental community disagree about how effective the guide will be. Responsible Recycling (R2) Practices for Use in Accredited Certification Programs for Electronics Recyclers was developed to promote better environmental, worker safety, and public health practices for electronics recyders, EPA said. It lists 13 principles to help electronics recyders ensure their material is handled safely and legally in the United States and abroad.
