Whenever you launch an application, the Resume feature of Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) automatically reopens any windows that were open when you last quit that application. If you don't like this behavior, you can disable it completely in the General pane of System Preferences. But what if you like it overall, but find it problematic for one or two particular programs? For example, here at Macworld, multiple people work on multiple versions of files; if an editor quits Microsoft Word with a file still open, and later double-clicks a newer version of that file, Word may launch with both the old and the updated versions open. If the editor isn't careful, he or she can end up working on the wrong version of the document. Disabling Resume for Word avoids such potential problems.
