U.S. base oil exports surged ahead in 2015, after a slight dip the year before. The country shipped out 26.5 million barrels last year, which is four out of every 10 it produced. On the import side, Canada nudged aside South Korea as the leading foreign supplier of base oils, while Persian Gulf countries also vied for a share of the market.
