Global lubricant additive demand is estimated by Kline & Co. to be over 4 million tons a year, including both active component and diluent oil. A full 60% of that is consumed in making heavy-duty and passenger car engine oils, so it's no surprise that dispersants, V.I. improvers and detergents account for the lion's share of what's needed.
