An outstanding birthday

Quebec City's first four centuries of history have been celebrated with the world's biggest video show. A truly unique city, it acted as a base for the great explorations on the discovery of the American continent, and as a gateway for, above all, European and Asian immigration. It is in fact no coincidence that most inhabitants speak three languages: English, French and the language spoken inrntheir country of origin. The year that has just ended featured a string of events to mark the anniversary of what is a truly lively city, which was declared by UNESCO in 1985 as "a world heritage jewel". Thanks to its architectural structure that is French in taste, the city's skyline is not only pretty but also very photogenic. For a time before the definitive transfer to Ottawa in mid-19th century, Quebec was also the country's capital city. The celebrations were officially kicked-off on December 31, 2007, at Place D'Youville, with an extravaganza of music, dance, acrobatics and screenings of some of the city's salient moments.
