Fukui Railway and Echizen Railway (both 1067mm-gauge) launched a new tram-train service on 27 March, connecting the systems at Tawaramchi. Four new low-floor cars, L01 and LO2 owned by Echizen, and F1001/2 owned by Fukui provide through operation between Echizen-Takefu in Fukui and Washizuka-Haribara on the Echizen Railway, running on street through the city. On the same day the transit centre was completed on the west side of JR Fukui station (Fukui Ekimae); the Fukui Railway station branch was extended by 143m to a new terminus adjacent to the centre.
