For a newly minted librarian, the search for a job marks a stark transition from the supportive university environment to the cold, competitive world of job seeking. Nothing in library school prepared me for my encounter with the library's hiring machinery: a jumble of mixed signals, dead leads, and stale information—with a good serving of plain rudeness and the occasional bald lie thrown in for spice.
