This situation demonstrates how difficult it can be to bring up a problem to management. Baron has obviously hit on a longstanding concern of the employees of the Seward Public Library, one that they blame for health problems and retention issues. Yet, it also sounds like these concerns have never been brought to the library director's attention. Most of what Schlegel believes seems to be based on hearsay and office gossip. This is not uncommon. It takes a lot of guts to approach a library director with what is expected to be an unpopular concern. In some ways, it is easier to complain with coworkers and assume it is just part of the job. However, nothing will change if Baron and Schlegel are unwilling to try. With some preparation, they should be able to develop a thoughtful, respectful presentation that Belasko will take seriously.
