Nova U.-Broward Deal Saves $1.7M

Nova Southeastern University (NSU), Fort Lauderdale, FL, will save Broward County more than $1.7 million a year now that university and county officials have negotiated a revision to their deal to support the joint-use Alvin Sherman Library on NSU's Davie campus. Julie Spechler, director of public affairs at NSU, confirmed that the deal would extend to NSU the same nine percent cut the Broward County Libraries are taking. That cut alone translates into $422,712 in savings for the county, Spechler noted.The agreement came weeks after county administrators threatened to find a way to walk away from the contractual obligation to support the NSU library. Currently, the county is said to have more than 30 years left on its original contract to support the Sherman Library based on usage by residents.
