U.S. & CANADIAN LIBRARIES MAKE A STATEMENT ON EBOOKS

Over 70 library systems from the United States and Canada-including New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Toronto, and Chicago-issued on June 5 a joint statement called the ReadersFirst Initiative, demanding improved ebook services for library users. The four principles outlined in the letter, which will be sent to distributors, were drafted and circulated by the New York Public Library (NYPL), said Christopher Platt, NYPL director of collections and circulation operations.
