Ballard's (Miss Dimple Rallies to the Cause) latest cozy mystery is set in rural Georgia during World War Ⅱ. Miss Dimple Kirk-patrick is a beloved schoolteacher and local sleuth. After she helps to find a missing child, Miss Dimple meets Mae Martha, an elderly local artist, and her assistant, Suzy. When Mae Martha is murdered not long after, Suzy is the chief suspect because her family is Japanese. Here Ballard turns her attention to the prejudice against Japanese Americans during the war and the effects of that war on those remaining at home. The audiobook is enhanced with excellent narration by Pam Ward, who employs authentic Southern accents for all male and female characters. VERDICT Recommended for those who like cozy mysteries coupled with a Deep South atmosphere.
