MA Center for the Book Re-Funded

The Massachusetts Center for the Book was refunded on July 30 thanks to emergency sessions of the state House and Senate convened on the previous two Saturdays. Gov. Charlie Baker had slashed budgets for several educational and cultural organizations with his vetoes on July 9. The Center for the Book, whose entire budget comes from the state, was completely defunded. The Massachusetts Cultural Center also faced large cuts and started a petition to build support to override the governor's decision. This campaign brought attention to other organizations, including the center, that had also had their budgets reduced or eliminated.
