VALA Conference 2008

The theme for this years VALA conference was Libraries/Changing Spaces, Virtual Places, held at the Convention Centre in Melbourne, Australian from 5 to 7 February 2008. The biennial conference focused this year on developments in and around libraries regarding depositories and Web 2.0 specifically, although other case studies and explorations fitting around the theme of spaces and places were also presented.rnAndy Powell from EduServ Foundation in the UK presented the opening plenary session, which focused on repositories and libraries. He spoke eloquently on the place of repositories and how they fit in the Web 2.0 world and what libraries need to be doing to ensure that both they and the content they uniquely make available are both here for decades to come. He examined content management, orientation, expanding they focus and explored what repositories of the future should look like, with particular emphasis on what libraries should be doing to achieve this future vision.
