Beyond assistive technology: presentation at Texas library association conference

In April 2014, I gave a presentation on this topic at the Texas Library Association annual conference that came as a result of publicity for online courses that I teach for the American Library Association (ALA) about providing library services to people with disabilities. The presentation title was "Beyond Assistive Technology: Improving Services to People with Disabilities". The presentation began by asking attendees to list the things that their libraries were already doing to serve people with disabilities. This is an important initial exercise because I believe all libraries are already providing many services. Although there are always areas that need improvement, librarians should begin by taking pride in their past and current achievements.
