Intelligent traceability:an innovative technology in the leather industry

The leather industry cannot escape the phenomenon of market globalisation. More than ever this situation reinforces the requirement of traceability and authentication for leathers, components and finished products. As a means of guaranteeing the performance of logistics and ensuring an effective battle against fraud and copying, CTC Group, based in Lyon, France, screened several technologies, looked at their feasibility. A particular new concept was identified and tested by CTC. The paper reports trials and results of two selected technologies: -microsphere filled with fluro-phore agent and free syntheti-sed DNA- allowing a new way of tracing leather and leather products.
