摘要

When he was a young student in Virginia, George Washington copied down a list of 110 "Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation," which has remained in print for 265 years. Even though they have often been attributed to him, they were actually based on rules compiled by French Jesuits in 1595 and reprinted in English in 1640. owever, they had such a profound influence on Washington at age 14 that they shaped America's first president and guided many of his decisions and actions throughout his life and presidency, according to historian Richard Brookhiser.
