摘要

Being rejected by Harvard's Loeb fellowship program was one of the best things that ever happened to David Kamp. In 1995, after 13 years working for a Connecticut landscape architecture firm, Kamp had just started his own firm in New York City, called Dirtworks. The firm had embarked on its first project, a therapeutic garden on a barren rooftop of a New York health-care facility. Kamp had begun to explore how design could influence patients' experiences when he was encouraged to apply for the fellowship, an intensive year of intellectual growth and exchange for design-oriented professionals. He didn't get in but was encouraged to reapply.
