Over 100 years young, the Italian knitter Piave Maitex has emerged as a leader in the field of stretch fabrics for lingerie, swimwear, activewear and outerwear. The company's state-of-the-art raschel, warp and weft knits are characterised by an elevated design level, enhanced by the company's range of printing capabilities. Piave Maitex was first incorporated by the Barbini family as Feltre in 1908, using wooden looms to manufacture lace, embroidery and ribbons; some of which are preserved in the company's archives. After World War I, when the factory was converted into a military hospital, it reopened as Manifattura Piave, developing some of Europe's earliest knitted components for lingerie. Manufacturing was suspended during WWII, but in 1954 production resumed with a collection of stretch fabrics.
