The Business of Tourism, in the Hagley Perspectives on Business and Culture series, is a collection of essays based on a 2004 conference entitled 'Consuming Experiences'. Contending in the preface that 'the business dimensions of tourism, with some exceptions, had been broadly eclipsed by cultural and representational studies', co-editor Philip Scranton notes that the book's intent is to probe 'the mechanisms and implications of tourism as business enterprise' (p. ⅶ).
