The prowess of managing international logistics is crucial to the Hong Kong clothing industry. This is because most of the garments produced there are for export and large amounts of required raw materials are imported. Moreover, the rapid expansion of moving production facilities to China and other foreign countries futher complicates the logistical operations across countries. Through a semi-structured interview survey with twently-five ececutives, this paper reviews the current logistics practices adopted by the local clothing manufacturers in managing their in-coming materials, and the logistical problems they encountered in this accord. Findings show that supply-side logistics of a trans-national clothing production network is complicated and is largely determined by the locational structure of a firm's supply sources and production sites, and the logistical system it adopts. Notwithstanding the complication of the logistical structure, the responding firms tend to be complacent about the current practices they have adopted.
