Details are provided for a new experimental approach to study the fully-reversed strain controlled low-cycle fatigue (LCF) behavior of thin metallic foils. To illustrate the technique the fatigue life of an Ni-base superalloy foil was studied at room temperature and 500℃. The fatigue tests were performed at a loading frequency of 2.2 Hz. For a strain amplitude of 1.5 % the fatigue life ranged from 649 and 754 cycles at room temperature and between 227 and 340 cycles at 500℃. In addition to metallic foils, the technique can be used to study the fully-reversed bending of other materials such as optical fibers.
