In the paper characteristics were investigated of combustion products of aluminum in two explosion processes: detonation of mixtures of explosives with aluminum dust (the high-pressure process), and explosive combustion of dust-gas mixtures (the low-pressure process). The explosion processes were performed in hermetic explosion chambers. Solid explosion products were analyzed after chemical treatment: (ⅰ) the phase composition was determined by the X-ray method, (ⅱ) the topology and sizes of grains were determined on the basis of scanning electron microscopy images. It was established that α-Al_2O_3 with the characteristic size of some microns is the combustion product of aluminum in the high-pressure process. In the low-pressure process, transitory, partially nutrirated alumina (γ, δ) arise. Their grains have spherical shape and submicron size.
