Nazi Policy on the Eastern Front, 1941: Total War, Genocide, and Radicalization, edited by Alex J. Kay, Jeff Rutherford, and David Stahel, is a prime example of that. The cover photo shows Reichsfuher-SS Heinrich Himmler and other SS officers talking to a Soviet boy in Belarus. And you immediately realize that the chances that this kid survived the Second World War are very slim indeed, a disheartening feeling to say the least.
