Horizons of Home: Nation, Gender and Migrancy in Island Southeast Asia

Penelope Graham's book is a collection of eight papers on nation, gender, and migrancy-what she calls "horizons of home"-in island Southeast Asia. Some were presented initially during the 25th Annual Indonesia Lecture series, while others were added later to bring different perspectives to the overall theme. The purpose of that lecture series was to examine the issue of how "horizons" of home-spatial, temporal, and political-are currently delineated and experienced in island Southeast Asia. As to be expected in such a volume, the depth of insight and quality of the papers vary considerably. Likewise the scale at which the authors consider the topic varies enormously, ranging from nationwide to very localized and specific.
