THE OPTICAL FIBER: A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

摘要

This paper is an attempt to provide a historical perspective to the development of the field of fiber optics. Starting with Daniel Colladon 's experiment demonstrating guidance of light within a water jet in the late nineteenth century, it traces various important milestones in the rise and rise of fiber optics that we witnessed in recent years to absorb the huge growth in bandwidth demand for Internet access and data transfer.
