Important scientific developments willchange the paradigm for nuclear materialsprocessing and signature discovery,influencing the fields of nuclear forensics,nonproliferation, signature discovery, andthe assessment of nuclear security vulnerabilities.To better understand thesedevelopments, the U.S. Department ofEnergy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratoryand the Institute of Nuclear MaterialsManagement (INMM) Technical Divisionfor Nonproliferation and Arms Controlhosted about 100 nuclear security expertson May 1–2, 2018, in Richland, Washington,USA, for the International Workshopon Nuclear Materials Science, Processingand Signature Discovery. Attendees heardpresentations in five focus areas: nuclearmaterial processing and nonproliferation,signature science, nuclear forensics,nuclear material science and its relevancyto treaties and policies, and developingthe next-generation experts. The workshopalso featured a special session onIntroduction to Plutonium.
