Water System Profile Billerica, Massachusetts

The Town of Billerica, Mass., with engineering consultant CDM (Cambridge, Mass.) and contractor Carlin Construction (Waterford, Conn.), recently completed a new 14 million gallon per day (mgd) state-of-the-art conventional water treatment plant (WTP) to replace its vintage 1956 facility. The new plant, along the Concord River about 1.5 miles upstream of the old, consists of pretreatment, ozone, filtration, residuals handling, administration and residuals handling buildings, finished water storage tanks, a laboratory, and mechanical, electrical, shop and maintenance rooms.
