ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY AND BENEFITS OF FISH CAGE CULTURE OF MAE PING BASIN FARMER IN AMPHOE KHLONG KHLUNG, CHANGWAT KAMPHEANG PHET

The economic analysis on the fish cage culture indicated that the final ratios of the factors of number of fry and fish feed were 0.03 and 11.86, respectively. In terms of the earnings for culturing the fish in the cage sizing 3 × 3 × 2.5 meter., Mae Ping Basin farmers divided the fish into 2 sizes. Namely, the fish of 600 grams were sold at 44.39 baht/kilogram while the smaller ones were sold at 34.04 baht/kilogram. In addition, the fish of 600 grams could be produced for 682.98 kilogram/cage while the smaller ones were produced for 94.37 kilogram/cage with the remuneration of 10,530.58 baht/cage. The farmers also cultured the fish in the cage sizing 5 × 5 × 2.5 meter. dividing the fish into 2 sizes as well. Namely, the fish of 600 grams were sold at 44.39 baht/kilogram while the smaller ones were sold at 34.04 baht/kilogram In addition, the fish of 600 grams could be produced for 1,062.50 kilogram/cage while the smaller ones were produced for 187.50 kilogram/cage with the remuneration of 22,328.95 baht/cage. According to the research, most Mae Ping Basin agriculturists were farmers and gardeners. As the farmers had the contract with the promotion company, they obtained knowledge on the fish cage culture from the company. From this research, the main problems and obstacles faced by the farmers included the high cost of fish feed, low price of product, lack of capital, infectious disease during the culture, insufficiency of fry and limitations of the production expansion.
