Claude-Antoine-Gaspard Riche (1762–97) was a doctor naturalist who on 15 December 1792 went on Antoine Raymond Joseph de Bruni d'Entrecasteaux's (1737–93) 1792 expedition just west of Esperance from the Recherché and collected samples of Nuytsia floribunda, a bright orange Christmas Tree, mistletoe tree or cabbage tree from South Western Australia. Dr William Milligan (c. 1795–1851) noted the tree was named after the Dutch official, Pieter Nuyts (1598–1655). Little seems to be known of these two doctors – a project for a reader perhaps? (Hopper SD. Nuytsia floribunda, Loranaceae. Curtis's Botanical Magazine 2010;26:333–368).
