When people interact with physical environments that produce vibration andnmechanical shock, they can experience responses to the environment ranging fromnmild to life-changing depending on the characteristics of the exposure. The 3rdnAmerican Conference on Human Vibration, the third in a biennial series starting atnNIOSH in 2006 and continuing in Chicago in 2008, provided a forum for scientists,nengineers, ergonomists, medical doctors, industrial hygienists, educators,nepidemiologists, health and safety specialists, physiologists, psychologists, studentsnand others from government, industry, and academic institutions to discuss andnadvance research and education in the area of human response to vibration.
