This book has a host of virtues to add to its alluring title. It is a work of local history - itself something of a rare bird in Argentinian historiography - that studies the mechanisms of the society that grew up around the production of wheat in a southern part of Buenos Aires province, Partido de Coronel Dorrego, from its settlement by people of European extraction until the emergence of Peronism altered the social dynamics of the region.
