摘要

The current impression is that, within the ENT speciality, otology has reached a plateau, and is now virtually at a standstill. But a reading of the proceedings of the Symphonix Symposium at the Dublin Congerence renders this viewpoint completely untenable. It is the same for those who felt that sensori-neural deafness was a vast area incapable of classification, which underlines the importance of the presentation of P. Tran Ba Huy, with his proposal for a new category of endolympha-tic deafness. Progress in the field of the pharmacology of sensori-neural deafness has brought us to the point where our treatment strategy will henceforth be more relevant and more effective in this area. Progress in computers has allowed the development of a model of the outer and middle ear, which not only makes for better understanding of the mechanisms involved, but also allows us to improve our ossicular reconstruction procedures.
