BORDER SPILLOVER EFFECTS ON HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX

摘要

This paper builds upon previous studies regarding cross-border spillover effects on economic growth. The objective is to construct a model that can predict Human Development Index (HDI) for a country based on the HDI values of the neighboring countries. There are some least developed and developing countries for which reliable data are not available and hence construction of development indexes such as HDI would be a challenge at best. The model is tested for African countries and adjusts the predicted values for two factors involving geographical location.
