50TH JUBILEE SYMPOSIUM OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR SHELL AND SPATIAL STRUCTURES

The 2009 Annual IASS Symposium was held at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain, from September 28 to October 2, 2009, under the auspices of the University and the CEDEX. Under the topic "Evolution and Trends in Design, Analysis and Construction of Shell and Spatial Structures," the IASS 2009 Symposium celebrated the 50th anniversary of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures. 337 participants and 31 accompanying persons, coming from 36 countries, attended the technical and the social program.rnThe Symposium themes ranged over a wide variety of topics in the field of structures, including: analysis, computation, optimization, morphology, history, realization and design of shell and spatial structures; structural systems (such as shells, spatial structures, tension and membrane structures, tensegrity systems, reciprocal frames); deployablernand adaptive structures; timber structures; concrete shells; tanks and silos; masts and towers; footbridges and bridges; earthquake and wind actions; structures and environment; and structural materials.
