摘要

A novel and simpler shear stress sensor has been developed that is capable of direct measurement of wall shear stress. This floating element device is based on linear voltage differential transformer (LVDT) displacement sensor. The shear stress sensor was used to calibrate two commonly used indirect shear stress measurement methods namely Preston tubes and sublayer fences. This device also proved useful in situations, with severe adverse pressure gradients and in detecting regions of flow separation and re-circulation.
