Explosion Resistant Buildings for Fireworks and Match Works Industries - Issues and Challenges Ahead

This paper emphasizes the importance of framing necessary guidelines for the construction of explosion resistant structures for fireworks and match works industrial buildings. Various chemicals used in these industries and its effects on buildings due to explosion accidents are presented. The existing provisions as per Indian Explosives Act 1884, IS: 4991 and IS: 6922 for blast resistant structures due to explosion are critically reviewed. The issues and challenges ahead in the design and construction of explosion resistant structures for fireworks and match works industrial buildings are highlighted. Also, the urgent need for framing the guidelines for the construction of explosion resistant structures for fireworks and match works industrial buildings is stressed.
