On June 11, 2008, HUD issued Notice PIH 2008-25, dealing with "renewable energy and green construction practices in public housing." The notice "strongly encourages" public housing agencies to use renewable energy sources and green construction and rehabilitation techniques "whenever they procure for maintenance, construction, or modernization." It also provides a definition of "green building" for both new construction and modernization and describes the applicability of the notice to asset management.
